Our Projects
Oklahoma
Why Oklahoma?
Oklahoma has always been a pioneer in the energy economy, developing rich oil and natural gas resources. This 19-mile line is a part of a larger transmission line project being implemented to reduce congestion, provide more efficient and cost-effective transmission of energy and increase Oklahoma’s access to a broader range of generation resources.
- As the only independent transmission company operating in Oklahoma, ITC Great Plains, a wholly owned subsidiary of ITC Holdings, is committed to working with all stakeholders to identify and solve transmission issues for Oklahoma and the region. We work closely with the Southwest Power Pool, state and federal policymakers, local elected officials, local business and community leaders and environmental groups to bring timely and efficient investment in transmission to Oklahoma.
- Through its independence, ITC maintains a focus on improving transmission, making it more reliable and efficient, lowering the cost of end-use electricity and ensuring nondiscriminatory access. In existence for six years, ITC has invested approximately $1 billion in transmission system upgrades. ITC’s independent model aligns the interests of the company and its shareholders with those of electricity consumers.
Hugo to Valliant Transmission Line and Substation
What is it?
The Hugo to Valliant line is a 345,000 volt (345kV) transmission line that will run approximately 19 miles from a new substation that ITC will build near the Western Farmers Electric Cooperative Hugo Power Plant, west of Fort Towson, to an existing substation southeast of Valliant.

Why do we need it?
Simply put, the area doesn’t have enough high-voltage transmission lines, and the current system can’t effectively meet demand. This project is intended to reduce system congestion and inefficiency, meet increasing service requests for transmission and help provide access to more dependable, efficient and affordable electricity in southeastern Oklahoma and throughout the state.
