ITC Great Plains is in the business of delivering your energy. Our objective is to facilitate the marketplace, deliver energy and improve customer value by investing in transmission infrastructure to improve the reliability of our system and reduce congestion and system losses, and thus reduce the overall cost of delivered energy.
The process of transmitting energy from generating plants to where it is needed is a complex challenge in terms of both technology and manpower - our customers depend on us, 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
Transmission systems are bulk power systems that act as pipelines between generating facilities and the distribution systems that feed your home and business. They are composed of stations (which interconnect our transmission lines with the generating facilities and distribution facilities), towers, and transmission lines. Our equipment transforms and carries voltages of 120kV (120,000 volts) or higher. Operating our lines at high voltage allows power to be shipped economically over long distances while minimizing loss of power.
As we begin to upgrade and build out needed facilities in Kansas and Oklahoma, ITC Great Plains will undertake a number of key daily jobs:
- Keeping the system stable and maintaining reliable operation under all circumstances.
- Continuously balancing power generation and demand.
- Monitor flows over the transmission lines and other facilities to make sure the lines are not overloaded.
- Maintain the system frequency - this helps your alarm clock stay accurate!
- Keep the transmission system healthy with a proactive maintenance programs.
We will become the nation's foremost transmission provider by identifying, upgrading, building and managing the electric highway of the future. Delivering energy is what we do; delivering your energy more efficiently and reliably is our priority.
