Regulatory & Construction Timeline

  • December 9 & 10, 2008 -- Community Open Houses for Phase One of the line
  • March 13, 2009 -- File Siting Application with KCC for Spearville to Knoll segment
  • April 2009 -- KETA Project approved in SPP Balance Portfolio for cost recovery/allocation
  • July 13, 2009 -- KCC approved ITC Great Plains' siting application for Spearville to Knoll segment
  • August 26, 2009 -- Phase Two KETA Line CAG meeting
  • November 30, December 1, 2009 -- Projected Community Open Houses in Plainville and Smith Center for Phase Two
  • March 2010 -- Projected filing of siting application with KCC for Knoll to Nebraska phase
  • July 2010 -- Anticipated KCC ruling on siting application for Knoll to Nebraska phase
  • October 2010 thru February 2012 -- Right-of-Way Acquisition and Engineering Design for Phase One and Phase Two of the KETA Line

Preliminary Route Selection Study

  • Preliminary route selection study performed by Black & Veatch
  • Purpose was to identify preliminary route alternatives
  • Criteria used for preliminary route selection included:
    • Total route length
    • Number of angle points in the route
    • Number of highway and river crossings
    • Proximity of residences, schools, churches, and cemeteries within 500 feet route
    • Route length through grasslands, croplands, woodlands, wetlands, and open water
    • Avoidance of existing center pivot irrigation systems
  • Route selection methodology:
    • Establish route study corridor (complete)
    • Initial desktop route mapping using online aerial photography (complete)
    • Field review of study corridor and routes (complete)
