Phase II Project Timeline - Knoll to Nebraska Border

  • April 2009 -- Project approved in Southwest Power Pool Balanced Portfolio for cost recovery/allocation
  • August 26, 2009 -- Community Action Group meeting
  • November 30-December 1, 2009 -- Community Open Houses in Plainville and Smith Center
  • March 2010 -- Projected filing of final route siting application with the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) for Phase II
  • July 2010 -- Anticipated KCC ruling on siting application for Phase II
  • Third Quarter 2010 thru Second Quarter 2011 - Right-of-Way Acquisition and Engineering Design
  • Fourth Quarter 2011 thru December 2012 -- Line Construction
  • June 2013 -- Official in-service date for the entire SKA line. However, ITC is coordinating with Nebraska Public Power District to energize the line by December 2012

Preliminary Route Selection Process

  • Preliminary route selection study to identify route alternatives
  • Criteria used for preliminary route selection include:
    • Total route length
    • Number of angle points in the route
    • Number of highway and river crossings
    • Proximity of residences, schools, churches, and cemeteries within 500 feet of route
    • Route length through grasslands, croplands, woodlands, wetlands, and open water
    • Avoidance of existing center pivot irrigation systems
  • Route selection methodology:
    • Establish route study corridor
    • Initial desktop route mapping using online aerial photography
    • Field review of study corridor and routes
    • Environmental evaluation
    • Route modifications
    • Community Action Group meeting and input
    • Public Open Houses
    • Provide proposed route for KCC Siting Application
