Community Outreach

Overview

ITC Great Plains is proud of our commitment to the environment and to the communities we serve.

We believe the environment is an important factor when planning and designing a project. We take all potential environmental factors into consideration and work with appropriate organizations, including the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Army Corps of Engineers, from the beginning to make sure any direct environmental impact is managed and mitigated.

Our investments in the communities extend beyond creating jobs and supporting local businesses and governments. Our corporate policy is to support local schools and governments, and to encourage municipal development of our right-of-ways for bicycle and pedestrian paths. Just as important, ITC capital projects generate property taxes for communities, improve electric reliability and provide access to lower-cost energy from a variety of sources, which helps attract and retain businesses.

We believe this kind of collaboration will help develop a transmission line that aligns with federal and state energy and environmental policy objectives. We adhere to all state and federal regulations to protect native plants, threatened or endangered species, wetlands and water and air quality.

ITC Great Plains is committed to open, honest and frequent communications with landowners. When the proposed line routes are determined, we will contact landowners who have property on the proposed line route corridor to explain the project to them and begin discussions about obtaining the easements necessary to build the line. We will work respectfully with landowners throughout the siting, design and construction process to minimize impacts to their properties. We fully expect to reach mutually beneficial negotiated agreements with them.
